The Letchworth Open was an exhibition instigated during the UK lockdown of 2020/21, designed to 'bring the community together under one roof' at a time when this was impossible. The Letchworth Open also acted as a method for creatives from the region to give their support to the gallery at a time when it faced permanent closure. Although initially promoted as a standard open call it was announced via video to over 200 viewers that all applicants would be exhibiting. Unlike most open calls, and in the spirit of bringing together a wide cross section of the community, the Letchworth Open was free to enter.
The exhibition became a centre point for additional creative activities around the region including family workshops and The Letchworth Open Windows project, in which creatives from the area placed artworks in the windows of their homes.
